Two young men described as “idiot” siblings caused a severe accident that left a teenage girl with critical injuries while engaging in a high-speed race, a court revealed. Harrison Taylor, 19, and his 21-year-old brother Henry were racing their respective Mercedes A200 and BMW 135i vehicles on the Sandbanks peninsula in Poole, Dorset, during the early hours of Boxing Day in 2023. The court learned that the brothers had received these powerful cars as gifts to cope with their parents’ separation.

During the race, Harrison lost control of the Mercedes on a bend, crashing into a gatepost of a luxurious mansion. Subsequently, the BMW collided with the Mercedes, propelling it into a garden wall. A teenage girl named Mia Savage, who was a front seat passenger in the Mercedes, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued as her mother, who arrived at the accident scene, witnessed the harrowing event. Mia, who was 17 at the time, sustained life-altering injuries including a shattered left femur, fractured neck, broken arm, eight broken ribs, and severe internal bleeding from multiple injuries.

Following the accident, Mia underwent extensive surgery, spent a week in a medically induced coma, and required prolonged rehabilitation, including being in a neck brace for an extended period. Regrettably, her injuries led her to miss out on a sports scholarship and impacted her academic pursuits.

The Taylor brothers admitted guilt to causing serious injury through dangerous driving and appeared in court for sentencing. Despite the severity of the incident, they received suspended sentences and a three-year driving ban from Judge Robert Pawson, who cited their youth and lack of prior criminal record as mitigating factors.

Mia’s mother, Karen Bulgarelli, expressed disappointment with the court’s decision, highlighting the profound impact the accident had on their lives. She criticized the leniency shown towards the brothers, emphasizing the lasting consequences of their reckless actions.

The court heard that the brothers and their friends had been socializing before the ill-fated drive, with Mia opting to join Harrison’s car moments before the tragic accident. The group’s reckless driving, reaching speeds of 80-90mph on a 30mph road, resulted in the catastrophic collision that forever altered Mia’s life.

Reflecting on the events, Mia described the excruciating pain she endured and the traumatic aftermath of the accident, including physical and emotional scars. She shared the challenges she faced in her recovery journey, including flashbacks and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Judge Pawson admonished the brothers for their irresponsibility and highlighted the gravity of their actions, which had profound repercussions on an innocent individual’s life. He underscored the need for accountability and condemned the dangerous behavior exhibited by the siblings that led to the life-altering incident.

In conclusion, the court’s decision to impose suspended sentences and driving bans on the Taylor brothers sparked controversy and raised questions about the justice system’s handling of such cases involving serious harm caused by reckless driving.
