Christian Horner is reportedly being considered to take over from Andy Cowell as the team principal of Aston Martin. Cowell, aged 56, is rumored to be on the verge of dismissal following the recent Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, a former leader at Red Bull, has been eager to return to Formula 1 since leaving his previous role in July.
After a challenging Las Vegas GP, RacingNews365 disclosed that Cowell was at risk of losing his position at Aston Martin. The team is currently struggling in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship, only eight points ahead of ninth-placed Sauber. The report identified Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber figure, as the frontrunner to assume the role.
Nevertheless, BBC Sport has indicated that Horner is also being considered as a potential replacement for Cowell. Horner, an iconic figure from his time at Red Bull, has been linked to several teams following his departure, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, making this opportunity with Aston Martin a significant one for him.
Speculation about Horner joining Aston Martin emerged before the Singapore Grand Prix but was promptly denied by Cowell, who stated that there were no plans to involve Horner in any capacity with the team.
If Horner does return to the grid with Aston Martin, it would set the stage for a reunion with his rival, Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who had previously criticized Horner. Despite this, Red Bull had a successful outing in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen secured victory, keeping his hopes alive in the Drivers’ Championship.
Subsequently, both McLaren cars were disqualified post-race, allowing the four-time world champion to close the gap on Norris in the championship standings as they head to Qatar.
