A young woman was rushed to the hospital with just hours to live before uncovering her husband’s sinister secret.
Hannah Pettey, 25, had been unwell for six months, bedridden in the days leading up to her hospitalization. Concerned about her deteriorating health, she contacted her mother, Nicole, who took her to see a doctor. Initially, medical staff did not detect any issues but Hannah’s insistence on her critical condition led to a seizure on January 18, 2022, leaving her unconscious for two days.
Doctors placed Hannah in a medically induced coma to conduct essential tests. Nicole recounted the shocking revelation from doctors, stating that Hannah was on the brink of death due to severe malnourishment and had a dangerous level of lead in her body.
After an agonizing eight-day wait, doctors informed Hannah, from Alabama, that she had an excessive amount of lead in her system. Nicole described the dire situation, explaining that her daughter’s body was overwhelmed with lead, affecting her stomach and bones.
Medical professionals suspected foul play as it seemed improbable for Hannah to have ingested such a high level of lead accidentally. Authorities launched an investigation, focusing on Hannah’s husband, Brian Mann, and Nicole.
The investigation uncovered a disturbing truth – Hannah’s husband had been poisoning her. Despite Hannah’s belief in Mann’s care, he had been surreptitiously administering tampered vitamins to harm her.
Following her recovery, Hannah initially hesitated to separate from her husband but ultimately decided to pursue a divorce after police intervention. She also cooperated with law enforcement to delve deeper into Mann’s actions, discovering his questionable life insurance claims on her, even before their marriage.
Further revelations exposed Mann’s scheme to profit from Hannah’s demise, with multiple life insurance policies taken out during her hospitalization, totaling around £3 million in potential payouts upon her death.
Evidence revealed that Mann had commissioned the construction of a lead-lined X-ray machine in his practice, implicating his involvement in the poisoning. He was ultimately convicted of attempted murder in August 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment, despite continuing to maintain his innocence and shifting blame to Nicole for allegedly poisoning Hannah.
Both women refute Mann’s accusations, with the chiropractor’s attorney suggesting that Nicole had laced Hannah’s milkshakes with lead, an allegation vehemently denied by both parties.
