David Bowie’s daughter publicly called out her friends for not acknowledging what would have been the music legend’s 79th birthday. Bowie passed away at his New York City residence on January 10, 2016, following a private battle with liver cancer just days after turning 69.

Iman and Lexi, Bowie’s wife and daughter, respectively, honored his memory on his birthday through social media tributes, receiving an outpouring of support. However, Lexi, aged 24, expressed disappointment towards her friends for overlooking the significance of the date and its proximity to the anniversary of her father’s death.

In an Instagram post, she thanked strangers for their condolences and criticized her friends for their lack of communication, stating, “Thank you to all the people I don’t know who wished me condolences, and f**k you to all of my friends who never texted me at all.” She further conveyed her dismay, revealing she received only one text.

Lexi, also known as Alexandria Zahra Jones, previously shared a nostalgic photo with her father, captioned with, “Da big 79 today. Happy birthday pops, miss ya!”

This incident occurred after Lexi disclosed her autism diagnosis earlier, describing it as a long and challenging journey of trying to fit in. She invested significant resources seeking professional guidance and was officially diagnosed with autism and ADHD. Lexi shared her relief at understanding her condition after years of masking it, emphasizing that autism manifests differently in individuals.

In a candid essay titled “The Quiet Effort: Neurodivergence through my lens,” Lexi recounted her struggles with feeling different, the exhaustion of masking her true self, and the toll it took on her self-esteem. She highlighted the common experience of late autism diagnosis in women and individuals socialized as female, calling for greater awareness and acceptance of diverse neurotypes.

Lexi’s openness about her journey resonated with many, emphasizing the importance of sharing stories like hers to promote understanding and support for neurodivergent individuals.
