In a quest for fame, a tragic incident unfolded involving vloggers Monalisa Perez and Pedro Ruiz, who documented their lives extensively online. The young couple, known for sharing their relationship journey and family moments, aspired to expand their YouTube following and achieve online stardom. Their content ranged from family outings with their daughter to daring challenges, including a gender reveal for their second child.
In June 2017, they posted a video titled ‘Doing scary stunts at the fair. Part 1,’ where they engaged in risky activities at a local funfair. Despite warnings from family members, Pedro and Monalisa proceeded with a dangerous stunt involving a handgun and an encyclopaedia, aiming to attract more viewers and gain fame.
Tragically, the stunt went awry, resulting in Pedro being fatally shot in the chest by Monalisa during the filming. Despite immediate medical intervention, Pedro succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Monalisa faced legal consequences and was initially charged with reckless firearm discharge, later pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter due to negligence leading to an avoidable tragedy.
Following the plea, Monalisa received a six-month jail sentence, served intermittently over three years to care for her children. Additionally, she was restricted from firearm possession, placed on probation, and prohibited from profiting from the incident. Ultimately, the ill-fated stunt, described as a prank gone wrong, left a family shattered and a community in mourning.
