Amazon has announced the arrival of its Alexa+ platform in the UK, providing Echo smart speaker owners with a more advanced version of the popular voice assistant. Alexa+ offers a more conversational experience, learning user preferences for music, books, and food choices. The voice assistant adapts its tone based on interactions, becoming more cheerful, for example, when discussing a favorite sports team’s win.
Through personalized settings, Alexa+ tailors recommendations for films, recipes, and sports updates to align with individual preferences. The platform also assists in creating shopping lists, tracking prices, sending delivery alerts, and comparing products through online reviews.
Users can easily control smart home devices using voice commands like adjusting lights or setting custom Routines without needing to open the Alexa app. Additionally, Alexa+ enables seamless control of whole-home speaker setups, allowing users to direct music playback to specific areas in the house.
Meryem Tom, Director of Alexa UK, emphasized the platform’s adaptation to British communication styles, acknowledging regional nuances and cultural references that enhance user experience. Amazon assures users of robust privacy features, including the Alexa Privacy dashboard for managing interactions and voice recordings.
Early Access to Alexa+ is now available for free in the UK, with a subsequent monthly fee of £19.99 post the initial offer period. Prime members will continue to receive complimentary access. Amazon plans to gradually invite hundreds of thousands of customers to experience Alexa+ in the upcoming weeks.
