The parents of a young man who tragically passed away just before the holiday season have shared their profound sorrow following the discovery of his body in the water. Luke Haffield lost his life after entering the River Avon in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. Despite search efforts, his remains were only recovered on December 27. Describing the 20-year-old as someone who touched many lives with his kindness, the family expressed deep sadness over his sudden demise.
In a statement conveyed through the police, they expressed their shock and devastation at the unexpected loss of their beloved son and brother in a heartbreaking accident. They highlighted Luke’s compassionate nature and the significant impact he had on numerous individuals who had the privilege of knowing him.
Acknowledging his achievements, the family mentioned that Luke was two years into his Engineering apprenticeship with Moog and had a passion for various sports like football, hockey, cricket in his younger days, and more recently, golf, darts, and padel. They lovingly referred to him as “Lukey” and vowed to forever cherish his memory.
Gloucestershire Police also released a statement extending gratitude to all the emergency services involved in the search and recovery operation, including Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, National Police Air Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and West Mercia Police dog handlers.
