A man has been convicted of attempting to rape a lone female passenger on an easyJet flight in a deplorable act. Nicola Cristiano deliberately changed seats to be near the victim while traveling from Naples to Edinburgh. The 45-year-old was found guilty of attempted rape after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh on December 9. During the flight from Naples on May 13, 2025, Cristiano targeted the woman, but she managed to seek help from cabin crew after he moved to a different section of the plane. The victim was assisted by flight attendants, and Cristiano was apprehended upon landing at Edinburgh Airport. Authorities criticized Cristiano’s behavior as despicable and praised the woman for reporting the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Steph Garnett from Police Scotland’s Public Protection Unit emphasized the seriousness of Cristiano’s actions and encouraged other victims of sexual crimes to come forward for support. Cristiano will be sentenced at a later date.
