Jenny Agutter, known for her role as Sister Julienne in “Call The Midwife,” shared an update on her health as the new series prepares to air. Despite being in good shape before the 2020 Christmas special, she was unexpectedly hit by shingles, causing ongoing discomfort even five years later.
In an interview with Woman’s Weekly Magazine, Jenny described the lingering effects of shingles as an itchy and bruised sensation on one side of her face. She expressed gratitude for her overall well-being, highlighting her ability to enjoy activities like walking and eating, despite the occasional physical challenges that come with age.
Reflecting on her shingles experience, Jenny recalled the pain and discomfort it brought, attributing its cause possibly to stress. She mentioned how the lockdown had varied effects on people and described her symptoms, including a rash, pain, and sensitivity to light.
According to NHS guidelines, shingles typically manifests as a rash on one side of the body, with possible appearances on the face, eyes, or genitals. Seeking guidance from a pharmacist or NHS 111 is recommended if shingles is suspected.
Celebrating her 73rd birthday after wrapping up filming for the latest series of “Call The Midwife,” Jenny emphasized her passion for work and the collaborative nature of projects. She expressed her enjoyment of being on set and the satisfaction of seeing projects come to life.
The new series of “Call The Midwife” is set in 1971, portraying women embracing Women’s Lib by burning their bras outside Nonnatus House. The season premiere airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
