Naomi Osaka has made the decision to withdraw from the Australian Open just hours before her scheduled third-round match. The 16th seed was set to face Maddison Inglis on Rod Laver Arena, but due to a physical issue that needs attention following her previous match, Osaka will not be competing, allowing Inglis to advance to the next round.

In a post on Instagram, Osaka expressed her disappointment at having to stop her run in the tournament due to her body needing care after the last match. She thanked her supporters and team for their understanding and the organizers for their kindness.

Speaking to the media through Tennis Australia, Osaka revealed that the injury she is facing is not new to her and had hoped to push through it. However, the discomfort escalated during warm-up, prompting her to prioritize her health and avoid further damage, especially considering the changes her body has undergone post-pregnancy.

Osaka’s recent matches in Melbourne included a victory against Sorana Cirstea and a three-set challenge from Antonia Ruzic. This marks her second consecutive tournament withdrawal following her last-minute exit from the Japan Open due to a left thigh injury sustained in a previous match.

Earlier this year, Osaka started her season representing Japan at the United Cup in Perth, where she faced health issues affecting her performance on the court. Despite her setbacks, Osaka remains optimistic about her future matches and is taking each day and game as it comes.
