Team GB has set ambitious goals for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, aiming to surpass their previous achievements. UK Sport, the organization that supports Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK, anticipates that Team GB could secure between four to eight medals in northern Italy.

The British team’s strongest performances at recent Winter Games were at Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, where they won a total of five medals, including one gold. However, Team GB’s performance leaders are aiming even higher this time around.

The optimism surrounding Team GB’s potential success is fueled by the impressive lineup of athletes heading to Italy. With world champions, X Games gold medalists, and World Cup podium finishers among the contingent, the team is poised for a strong showing. In the 2024/25 season, British winter athletes claimed a total of nine World Championship medals across various disciplines.

British skiers and snowboarders have achieved significant success in Olympic events, securing 28 major podium finishes, three Crystal Globes (overall World Cup titles), and a World Championship title courtesy of Zoe Atkin. Chef de mission Eve Muirhead, a curling gold medalist in 2022, emphasized the meticulous preparations and focus on creating optimal conditions for athletes to perform at their best during the Games.

The expectations are particularly high for Team GB in disciplines such as men’s skeleton, curling, skiing, and snowboarding. Mirror Sport is highlighting the top contenders within the team who are poised to compete for medals in Italy.

One standout athlete to watch is double men’s skeleton world champion Weston, who has dominated the World Cup circuit with multiple victories. Alongside Weston, Muir, Brookes, Atkin, and Bankes are all medal hopefuls in their respective events, showcasing Team GB’s depth of talent and potential for success at the Winter Olympics.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6-22, with fans able to enjoy over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Viewers can access comprehensive coverage of the Games through the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription, offering continuous Olympic content on TNT Sports 2 throughout the event.
