A courageous university student fought back against an intruder in her home and was brutally stabbed 67 times. Xana Kernodle, 20, bravely confronted Bryan Kohberger after he killed her roommates, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, both 21, in their off-campus rental in Moscow, Idaho. Despite being unarmed, Ms. Kernodle valiantly defended herself and her sleeping boyfriend Ethan Chapin.
Tragically, Ms. Kernodle succumbed to 67 stab wounds inflicted by Kohberger, including severe injuries to her jugular vein, back, chest, and face. Court documents detailing her autopsy report reveal the extent of the horrific attack.
Following Ms. Kernodle’s death, Kohberger proceeded to murder Mr. Chapin. He was later sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary.
While two other roommates survived the ordeal, Ms. Kernodle’s bravery shielded them from harm. The victims were attacked in their beds, with Ms. Kernodle acting heroically to protect them. Blood evidence was found at various locations in the house, indicating the sequence of events.
Autopsy findings indicated that Ms. Mogen and Ms. Goncalves did not resist their attacker, suggesting another person was involved in the struggle. Despite the significant physical disadvantage, Ms. Kernodle fought back fiercely, sustaining multiple wounds across her body.
Her autopsy detailed numerous injuries, including stab wounds to her face, neck, chest, abdomen, back, and extremities. Ms. Kernodle displayed remarkable courage throughout the ordeal, evident by the evidence of her struggle against Kohberger and the injuries she sustained.
