A surgeon allegedly shot his ex-wife and her new husband after threatening her, according to police. The incident occurred in Columbus, Ohio, where Spencer Tepe, 37, was found dead at his home on December 30. Monique, 39, was discovered later by the authorities. Michael McKee, Monique’s ex-husband and a practicing surgeon from Illinois, was arrested on January 10 and charged with aggravated murder and burglary.
McKee faces a potential life sentence if convicted and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Witnesses reported that McKee had threatened Monique, stating he could end her life at any time and would locate a house next to hers. Additionally, he allegedly claimed Monique would always be his wife. Another witness mentioned that Monique had disclosed to them that McKee had choked her and forced unwanted sexual acts.
Surveillance footage allegedly captured McKee breaking into the couple’s home on December 6, weeks before the tragic event, and leaving later. Monique, who was with her husband at a college football game in Indiana that day, left early due to distress related to her ex-husband.
McKee was previously married to Monique for two years, and their divorce was due to “incompatibility.” Spencer, a dentist, married Monique in 2021, and they had two children together.
Emergency services found the couple alive in their home, with a silenced gun allegedly used in the crime. Tributes described the couple as having a strong and happy relationship. Family statements expressed a commitment to seeking justice and protecting the children’s future.
