Canadian music icon, actor, author, and beloved personality Jann Arden’s social media followers are familiar with the iconic dirt road she refers to as “Jann’s road.” This rural pathway near her property in Springbank, Alta., holds a special place in Arden’s heart. It has been a backdrop for her walks, dog photos, reflections on caring for her parents, and moments of joy, including recent posts with her partner and now wife, Thordis Elva, an Icelandic author and advocate for digital rights and gender equality.

Arden surprised her fans by revealing her marriage to Elva on Jann’s road via an Instagram post on Sunday, sharing their wedding date as August 15, 2026. The announcement garnered a flood of congratulatory messages from well-known personalities like TV host Jessica Allen and radio host Meredith Shaw.

Describing the wedding celebration as a “beautiful, kickass gathering with dear friends and family,” Arden expressed her gratitude for the magical and surreal experience. The couple’s love story began at a writers’ retreat in Iceland, where they met with the inadvertent help of former Icelandic first lady Eliza Reid.

The wedding guest list included notable figures like Syrian Canadian novelist Danny Ramadan, actor Dani Kind, and talk show host Cynthia Loyst, among others. American comedian Chelsea Handler also attended the ceremony, expressing her joy on social media. Well-wishes poured in from fellow Canadian singers k.d. Lang and Bif Naked.

Elva, recognized for her advocacy work on gender equality and contributions to the #MeToo movement, shared wedding details on Arden’s podcast, playfully noting Arden’s insistence on carrying the bridal bouquet. The couple emphasized the importance of normalizing same-sex relationships and societal inclusivity, highlighting their commitment to using their platform for positive change.

As they plan a honeymoon in Edinburgh, Arden and Elva are excited for the future ahead, embracing their love story and advocating for a more inclusive society.
