Flights are set to resume on Wednesday at Wabush Airport after experiencing disruptions for several days, according to PAL Airlines. The cancellations were prompted by Transport Canada’s announcement on Monday that the airport did not meet firefighting and rescue requirements for commercial flights with over 19 passengers due to a mechanical issue with a vehicle.
PAL Airlines confirmed on social media that the necessary firefighting equipment has been restored, allowing flights 921, 922, 833, and 834 to operate as scheduled from Wednesday onwards. Affected passengers will be provided with updated travel information by the airline’s reservations team.
Before the flights resumed on Wednesday, Labrador MP Philip Earle expressed frustration over the repeated disruptions at the airport. He highlighted the challenges faced due to maintenance issues with the airport’s fire trucks, leading to operational pauses. Earle emphasized the urgent need for a resolution and called for a thorough review of the situation to prevent future occurrences.
In the past year, Wabush Airport has faced various challenges, including a brief shutdown in October 2025 due to changes in firefighting service requirements by a federal agency. Extreme weather conditions in December also led to flight cancellations and passenger inconveniences. Furthermore, a notice issued in January restricted aircraft operations, affecting PAL Airlines’ flights.
