For the last few weeks, crowds have been gathering daily outside the renowned Royal Monceau hotel near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, eagerly anticipating sightings of Céline Dion, arguably the world’s biggest superstar at the moment. Chanting her name excitedly, the crowds have watched as she appeared in various outfits, waving, signing autographs, and occasionally singing.

Paris, known as the City of Light, is buzzing with excitement for the singer’s upcoming return to the stage on Saturday for her residency concerts in Paris, a feat many believed to be unattainable. Léna Lutaud, a culture reporter for France’s oldest national newspaper Le Figaro, remarked, “I have never, ever seen a comeback like Céline Dion’s comeback in Paris, never.”

The anticipation for Dion’s performances is palpable throughout Paris, with signs adorning the Champs-Élysées and the Seine river proclaiming “Bonjour, Paris, Merci!” alongside large photos of the singer. In addition to the daily interactions outside her hotel, Paris has been abuzz with themed boat rides along the Seine, pre-concert parties, and lively karaoke events in celebration of Dion’s comeback.

After stepping off stage in New Jersey during her Courage World Tour in March 2020, Dion faced unexpected challenges that led to her extended hiatus from performing. In December 2022, she revealed her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that can cause severe muscle spasms, including in the vocal cords. Despite the setbacks, Dion remained determined to make a comeback, culminating in her performance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony on the Eiffel Tower.

The highly anticipated series of 16 concerts in September and October will kick off Dion’s residency, followed by an additional 10 shows starting in May 2027, all to be held at Europe’s largest indoor concert venue, Plenitude Arena.

One devoted fan, Estevam Peric, traveled to Paris from Montreal to see Dion perform for the 100th time. Overwhelmed with emotions, Peric described his deep connection to Dion’s music and the significance it holds in his life. Having attended numerous concerts and interacted with the singer, Peric expressed his admiration for Dion’s humility and kindness, emphasizing the magical impact of her voice.

As the excitement builds towards Dion’s first concert, fans eagerly anticipate more performances from the beloved singer, drawn to her enduring star power and musical legacy.
