Continuing the Canadian success in hammer throwing, Ethan Katzberg from Nanaimo, B.C., claimed victory in the men’s competition with an exceptional throw of 82.92 meters. Katzberg now holds prestigious titles from the Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games. The second spot was secured by Germany’s Merlin Hummel with a throw of 81.25 meters, while Hungary’s Bence Halász finished third with a throw of 79.44 meters.

In the men’s 100m final, Canada’s Andre De Grasse finished sixth with a time of 9.96 seconds at the Diamond League event in Silesia, Poland. The race was won by Jamaica’s Oblique Seville in a meeting-record time of 9.83 seconds, with Kenny Bednarek from the United States coming in second with 9.87 seconds, and Christian Coleman from the United States finishing third in 9.93 seconds.

The track and field season will culminate with the World Athletics Ultimate Championship from September 11 to 13 in Budapest. Katzberg has secured a spot in the Ultimate Championship due to his status as the reigning Olympic and world champion in the men’s hammer throw, while Rogers will not participate as the women’s hammer throw is not part of the championship program despite holding multiple titles.
