Israel is awaiting approval from the United States to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, as stated by Defence Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday. This move revives a controversial plan criticized for forced displacement and labeled as ethnic cleansing. Katz, speaking at a news conference organized by Israeli news platform Ynet and newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, mentioned that Israel is prepared to assist in the “voluntary emigration” of Palestinians in Gaza using any available means.

The proposal has been met with reluctance from Palestinians in Gaza, who fear it may lead to their involuntary removal. Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israeli National Security Minister and leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, is expected to unveil the plan, named “Disengagement 710,” on Thursday. The plan reportedly aims to relocate Palestinians over a seven-year period.

Pending approval from the U.S., Katz emphasized the importance of finding hosting countries for the Palestinians, stating that a lasting solution for Gaza involves this migration process. The Defence Minister expressed Israel’s readiness to facilitate the relocation of Palestinians through various means, including sea and air transport.

In a related development, nearly three years have passed since the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in significant casualties and hostilities. Following the clashes, Israel’s military operations in Gaza have caused extensive destruction and casualties, leaving a considerable portion of the region devastated.

Despite previous proposals by U.S. President Donald Trump to reconfigure Gaza and displace its inhabitants, recent peace plans agreed upon by Israel and Hamas in October 2025 did not include provisions for displacing Palestinians. However, ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza have continued to impact the region, with reports of casualties and infrastructure damage.

The United Nations has raised concerns over potential ethnic cleansing by Israeli authorities in Gaza and the West Bank, highlighting the need to protect the rights of the Palestinian population. Many Palestinians in Gaza are reluctant to leave their homes despite challenging living conditions, citing their deep-rooted connection to the land and their resilience against displacement.

The situation in Gaza remains complex, with differing perspectives on potential relocations and the need for sustainable peace initiatives. Efforts to address the humanitarian challenges in the region require international cooperation and a focus on resolving longstanding conflicts.
