Sick smugglers are using sedatives on children before sending them on small boats across the English Channel, shocking Members of Parliament revealed.

Lucy Rigby, the Solicitor General, disclosed that criminals are drugging children to ensure they behave compliantly during the perilous voyage. She mentioned that prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service informed her about smugglers’ tactics to make children more cooperative.

Speaking about the appalling actions of smugglers, Rigby stated, “I’ve been informed by CPS prosecutors about the reprehensible practices of these smugglers. They not only allow very young children on the boats but also sedate them to guarantee their compliance during the journey.”

In response to concerns raised by Labour MP Alex Ballinger from Halesowen, Rigby emphasized the government’s commitment to combat people smuggling and protect vulnerable individuals crossing the Channel, particularly children.

Recent data from the Home Office indicates that no migrants have arrived on UK shores via small boats in over a week, with the latest crossings recorded on August 26. Since January, over 29,000 people have undertaken the dangerous journey, resulting in nearly 80 fatalities last year.

A new initiative with France, known as the ‘one in one out’ returns deal, will start deporting individuals later this month. The scheme aims to detain and repatriate individuals who crossed the Channel unlawfully in exchange for approved applicants. Rigby emphasized stringent legal action against anyone involved in human trafficking.

Regarding the handling of the border crisis, Rigby criticized the opposition party for failing to address the issue and denounced Reform for inciting unrest without proposing solutions.

In response, Conservative shadow Solicitor General Helen Grant expressed disagreement with Rigby’s remarks about the previous government’s performance in this area, highlighting concerns about the current government’s track record over the past year.
