Reform UK’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, a wealthy individual, faced questioning regarding his suitability to criticize Angela Rayner, who is currently embroiled in controversy.

During a tense BBC interview, Tice criticized Rayner’s position as Deputy Prime Minister, labeling it as morally bankrupt and indefensible. Rayner’s political future is uncertain amid an investigation by Keir Starmer’s independent adviser into the stamp duty paid on her £800k seaside property in Hove. The ethics adviser’s report is expected imminently.

BBC presenter Nick Robinson brought up Tice’s previous involvement with a family offshore trust in the Channel Islands, as reported by The Mirror in 2024.

Tice defended himself by stating his history as an international businessman working in multiple countries. He clarified that while he aimed to avoid double taxation, he has consistently paid his taxes in the UK.

When asked about his frequent travels to Dubai, Tice sidestepped the question and criticized the VAT on private school fees imposed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. Tice’s partner, Isabel Oakeshott, has expressed dissatisfaction with the levy, citing it as a reason for relocating to Dubai.

In the interview, Tice evaded questions about Reform UK’s manifesto commitments from the previous general election, suggesting that the manifesto may not align with future election strategies.

Ellie Reeves MP, Chair of the Labour Party, reacted to the interview by accusing Reform of lacking concrete solutions and criticized Tice for failing to address spending plans promised by the party.

Tice’s responses have sparked controversy, with critics accusing him and Reform UK of prioritizing actions that could harm British jobs and suggesting their approach is unpatriotic.
