Microsoft has issued a critical warning to all Windows 10 users as the end of support for the operating system is approaching rapidly. The company has officially announced that it will cease all support for Windows 10 in 2025. With the deadline just weeks away, Microsoft has released an urgent alert.

According to Microsoft’s website update, “Windows 10 will reach end of servicing on October 14, 2025.” The last monthly security update for Windows 10 is scheduled for October 2025. After this date, devices running Windows 10 will no longer receive monthly security updates to protect against the latest security threats.

For those who are still using Windows 10, the recommendation is clear. Users should promptly upgrade to Windows 11 or opt for Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates, which will provide security support for the next three years.

Failure to take action poses a significant risk of cyber attacks and system vulnerabilities for laptops and desktop computers running Windows 10. Unlike Windows 11, there will be no additional feature upgrades for Windows 10.

Here is a brief overview of what needs to be done before the Windows 10 deadline:

UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 11:
For users with compatible PCs, upgrading to Windows 11 should be straightforward. Microsoft offers free updates, and users only need to follow the instructions to make the transition. Alternatively, purchasing a new laptop with Windows 11 pre-installed is also an option, albeit a more expensive one.

STICK WITH WINDOWS 10:
If users choose to stick with Windows 10, they should consider enrolling in Microsoft’s Extended Updates (ESUs) to ensure their PCs remain protected from known security threats and bugs. While ESUs do not provide new features, they offer critical security updates for Windows 10 at an annual fee of $30 (£24).

Yusuf Mehdi, Executive Vice President, Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Windows, stated, “We understand that some users may need additional time to transition to a new Windows 11 PC or Copilot+ PC. During this period, taking steps to secure existing PCs is advisable.”

If no action is taken, Windows 10 will continue to function after October 14, but the safety of the system cannot be guaranteed. It is strongly advised not to continue using Windows 10 without appropriate security measures in place.
