A man in Louisiana, USA, has been found guilty of multiple charges after sexually abusing a female family member, resulting in her pregnancy. Larry Darby, aged 61, committed the assaults between 2003 and 2009 when the victim was only 12 years old. The abuse involved severe physical harm, including the victim losing upper teeth and sustaining permanent neck scars.

The victim testified that the repeated assaults led to her pregnancy, which she was forced to carry to term, giving birth to Darby’s child. DNA evidence conclusively proved Darby’s paternity, advancing the investigation that had stalled since 2005. The case against Darby was reopened with additional supporting evidence.

Following a trial at Caddo District Court, Darby was convicted of aggravated rape, aggravated incest, and sexual battery. He faces a mandatory life sentence for rape and additional potential sentences totaling up to 50 years. Sentencing is scheduled for January 27. The District Attorney emphasized that justice was served after a prolonged legal process.

Darby had a prior conviction in 2022 for assaulting a stepchild, illustrating a history of abusive behavior. The successful prosecution was attributed to the victim’s bravery in coming forward. The importance of supporting abuse survivors and responding appropriately to disclosures was underscored by the verdict.
