Protests have erupted across the United States in response to two separate incidents involving federal agents that resulted in the death of one woman and the injury of two others.
In Minneapolis, an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good, 37, sparking outrage and prompting demonstrations in various cities and towns. In another incident in Portland, Oregon, immigration enforcement officers shot and wounded two individuals.
The protests coincide with the US Department of Homeland Security’s extensive immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis and St. Paul, which is described as the largest operation of its kind.
Despite public backlash, President Donald Trump’s administration has defended the shootings, asserting that they were acts of self-defense against individuals who were allegedly using their vehicles as weapons.
The demonstrations, under the banner “ICE Out for Good,” were organized by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its local chapters. Similar protests were held nationwide last year, with events taking place in all US states.
The Trump administration has deployed over 2,000 federal officers to Minnesota as part of an intensified enforcement initiative. Some officers were relocated from Louisiana, where they were involved in a separate operation that had been scheduled to continue until February.
