Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that the team principal, Toto Wolff, has been supporting former driver Lewis Hamilton during a tough season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to his new team, facing challenges with the car’s performance and race strategies.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent race in Qatar, where he faced setbacks during qualifying and finished outside the points in 12th place. Currently sitting in sixth place in the drivers’ standings, Hamilton may drop to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his frustration with the unexpected challenges of his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton described it as the “worst season ever.” Despite giving his all on and off the track, the 40-year-old driver has faced significant setbacks.
Acknowledging Hamilton’s struggles, Mercedes has offered personal support to help him navigate this tough period. Mercedes’ chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, mentioned that discussions have been held to assist Hamilton, with Toto Wolff even accompanying him to race events.
CHAMP1 was told, “We empathize with him on a personal level, knowing the dedication Lewis puts into his work. Every driver goes through rough patches, and it’s been tough on him. We aim to provide support in our own way, with Toto regularly by his side during races, offering encouragement as we believe Lewis Hamilton can still excel in the sport.”
Looking ahead to the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton aims to maintain his sixth position in the drivers’ standings. This race marks his last time driving the current Ferrari model, which has posed numerous challenges for him.
Despite the setbacks, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has encouraged the team to strive for success and learn from their mistakes. As the season concludes, Ferrari is eager to end on a high note before focusing on the upcoming 2026 campaign.
