Apple’s latest AirTag is a must-have for those prone to losing their keys. These compact trackers, which hit the market in 2021, have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. Their small size allows them to easily attach to keys, fit into bags, laptop cases, or luggage.

When in close proximity to the AirTag, your iPhone offers precise on-screen directions, and the AirTag can emit a sound to aid in locating it. The new-generation AirTag, just unveiled by Apple, boasts an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip for significantly enhanced range.

Apple claims this update enhances Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it much easier to locate lost items from greater distances. Precision Finding is now supported on select Apple Watch models for the first time, enabling users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrists.

Moreover, Apple has ramped up the volume on the new AirTag with a redesigned internal speaker, producing sounds 50% louder than its predecessor. This enhancement is particularly useful for finding the AirTag when it’s hidden in hard-to-reach places.

AirTags continue to leverage Apple’s extensive Find My network, which utilizes nearby Apple devices to anonymously relay location updates to the owner. The system has been revamped with privacy as a top priority. Apple emphasizes that AirTags do not retain location history on the device and all communications with the Find My network are safeguarded by end-to-end encryption, ensuring only the owner can access its location data.

The new AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted parties, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost belongings. Apple has already teamed up with over 50 airlines to support this functionality.

The latest AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability expected later this week. Additionally, prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, making it more affordable than the original, which debuted at £35.
