Alanis Morissette is taking legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate blackmail scheme to incriminate Morissette in drug trafficking unless she agreed to sign a lengthy contract with her. The Canadian singer-songwriter filed a lawsuit in California, alleging that Keren Urinov threatened to report her to British authorities for drug trafficking unless Morissette hired her as a tour director for 15 years and paid her substantial compensation.
Morissette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, stating in the lawsuit that she refuses to be coerced into providing her blackmailer with a significant payout. She initiated the legal proceedings to expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable.
In the lawsuit, it is detailed that Urinov, previously associated with Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired in 2025 as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s global tour. Allegedly, during a trip from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, a bag belonging to Urinov was flagged at the airport by British authorities, leading to her temporary arrest on suspicion of possessing marijuana and xylazine. Urinov was released after presenting her medical marijuana license.
Following the tour’s conclusion, Urinov purportedly sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a 15-year contract with substantial compensation. The lawsuit reveals instances where Urinov’s management of the tour was deemed inadequate, including a costly error with a hotel booking. Additionally, Morissette claims that Urinov failed to disclose her past criminal activities during her employment interview.
Despite being reluctant to take legal action, Morissette felt compelled to sue to avoid being coerced into a long-term association with an incompetent individual. She is seeking a trial by jury. Efforts to reach Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment have been unavailing.
