A cautionary alert has been issued to individuals who made purchases on Amazon in March regarding a new deceptive scheme falsely asserting a “product recall” has been initiated. The alarming text message, targeting UK mobile phones, initiates with a notification titled “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”
The message then proceeds to offer users a full refund and prompts them to click a link to log into their Amazon accounts. Additionally, it urges recipients to immediately stop using the product to heighten the sense of urgency.
The message, as observed by Mirror Online, states, “Dear Customer, we are contacting you regarding a product recall affecting an item from your March 2026 order due to a design flaw that may pose a safety risk. We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your prompt attention to this crucial safety concern. Thank you for your continued trust in Amazon.”
While the message may cause concern, it is essential to note that there is no real recall. The text is a phishing scam aimed at deceiving anxious customers into divulging their login credentials, a dangerous act that could have adverse consequences.
Individuals who click on the link are directed to a fraudulent Amazon sign-in page that appears authentic. Once login details are entered, scammers can misuse them to make unauthorized purchases, lock victims out of their accounts, or access personal data.
Despite being a new scam that has recently surfaced on phones, this is not the first time Amazon customers have been targeted. In a similar incident in February, cybercriminals spread messages claiming an item had been recalled “for safety reasons” and linked to a fake Amazon page, as reported by consumer group Which?
Responding to the situation, Amazon cautioned, “There are numerous scams that attempt to extract payments via email, phone, or text for products or services. Exercise caution when pressured to act urgently, as scammers often create a false sense of urgency and use convincing tactics to lure consumers in. We urge individuals to report suspected scams to safeguard their accounts and alert law enforcement.”
Amazon also advises customers to be vigilant regarding unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery messages, misspelled or oddly formatted links, and URLs using IP addresses instead of standard web addresses.
