An 11-year-old boy shouted three alarming words following the alleged shooting of his father, who was found dead in their quiet neighborhood in Duncannon Borough, Pennsylvania. The boy, Clayton, is now facing homicide charges.
According to court documents, the boy’s mother woke up to a loud noise and a smell like fireworks in the bedroom before Clayton entered and exclaimed, “Daddy’s dead.” State troopers reported hearing Clayton tell his mother, “I killed Daddy.”
It was revealed that Clayton, celebrating his 11th birthday, was upset after his father took away his Nintendo Switch. His mother, Jillian, who was next to her husband in bed, discovered the tragedy when she saw blood seeping through the sheets after turning on the lights.
Clayton then entered the room, shouting, while Jillian tried to perform CPR on Douglas until emergency services arrived. Despite their efforts, Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jillian told police that they had celebrated Clayton’s birthday the night before, but things took a dark turn when they asked him to go to bed. The court affidavit mentioned that the family gun was kept in a locked drawer, but Clayton found the key, unlocked it, retrieved the gun, loaded it, and shot his father.
Clayton admitted to the police that he hadn’t considered the consequences of his actions. He was arrested on the day of the incident and charged with criminal homicide, with a court hearing scheduled for January 22.
Reports indicated that Clayton’s parents had sought help for their son due to his escalating behavioral issues, including autism, sexual harassment, physical aggression, and theft, but were denied assistance as he didn’t meet the criteria.
Following the tragic event, the local school district offered support to students affected by the incident, acknowledging the impact on the community.
