Britain is bracing for impending snowfall expected to hit within hours following an amber warning issued by the Met Office, raising concerns over potential disruptions in travel and power supply.
Fresh predictions from WXCHARTS, utilizing MetDesk data, indicate that snow is scheduled to arrive early this morning from 6 am, with broad coverage spanning from Cape Wrath in northern Scotland to the Peak District in Derbyshire.
By 9 am, parts of Aberdeenshire and the Highlands could see significant snow accumulation of up to 18 inches, the most extensive across the UK. Conversely, regions in England are likely to receive lesser amounts, with the North West facing around 6 inches of snow.
The Met Office’s Sunday forecast mentions an expected shift to wet and windy conditions, including snow in the northern regions and a risk of icy conditions due to freezing rain. Coastal areas are forecasted to experience strong winds and gales, with milder conditions prevailing in the west, as reported by the Express.
Additionally, the Met Office has issued yellow and amber weather warnings for today, advising caution against wind, rain, snow, and ice. An unusual amber snow alert is in effect for Scotland from 3 am to 3 pm, with warnings of potential travel disruptions, road delays, rail and air travel cancellations, and the likelihood of rural communities being isolated. Power outages and interruptions to services like mobile phone coverage are also anticipated.
