Canada is gearing up for its first appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest, with the spotlight on who will represent the country on this global stage. The chosen artist will play a pivotal role in shaping Canada’s debut performance, with the application portal now open for interested performers to apply.

Among the early contenders are Rêve, a Montreal artist who clinched the 2023 Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year; Talk, who impressed at the 2024 Canada Day concert and secured the Juno for breakthrough artist of the year; and bbno$, a two-time Fan Choice Juno winner in 2025 and 2026.

To qualify, aspiring Eurovision contestants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 or above as of May 1, 2027, capable of international travel, and able to pass standard background checks. The application process includes submitting two videos: one featuring a live performance and another explaining their passion for Eurovision.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate exceptional vocal skills and be proficient in both English and French for the bilingual song requirement. The selection process, managed by CBC/Radio-Canada, involves a shortlisting phase that will determine the finalists. The public will have a say in choosing the representative through an online voting system, in conjunction with a jury vote.

The chosen artist will have a significant role in shaping the final song, with the delegation actively engaging with songwriters to create a memorable entry for Eurovision. The selected performer will undergo a rigorous schedule leading up to the Eurovision Grand Final in May, involving music video production and rehearsals.

While the artists will receive compensation for their efforts, the true reward lies in the exposure gained through the Eurovision platform, likened to having more viewers than the Super Bowl halftime show. The process is well underway, with Canada eagerly anticipating its inaugural Eurovision journey.
