The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer who participated in three Women’s World Cups and secured a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having coached in various countries including Denmark, Mexico, and most recently Saudi Arabia.
Moscato has signed a two-season contract with the Rapid, where she will commence her duties this year by focusing on preparations for the 2027 season, particularly in terms of player recruitment. Thomas Gilbert, the team’s CEO, expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership, coaching expertise, and profound understanding of Canadian soccer.
Reflecting on her new role, Moscato stated, “The Rapid has made significant strides in a short timeframe. I am eager to continue building on this foundation and creating an environment that enables players to excel, grow, and compete at the highest level.”
