Conor McGregor has expressed approval for the UFC’s upcoming White House event, even though he is not scheduled to compete in it.
Initially speculated to headline a match on President Donald Trump’s front lawn against Michael Chandler on June 14, McGregor is now expected to fight the following month. UFC CEO Dana White unveiled the White House card, featuring Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje in the main event.
In a surprising move, Alex Pereira will move up to the heavyweight division to challenge Ciryl Gane for the interim belt in the co-main event. McGregor shared a photo of the card on social media, expressing his support despite his absence from the lineup. He later praised the event, calling it “a great card.”
In an earlier statement, the former two-weight world champion disclosed that he was still awaiting confirmation for his cage return. McGregor revealed his eagerness to compete in what he believed was a promising matchup against Chandler. However, plans shifted, and McGregor hinted at a potential appearance during International Fight Week.
McGregor also disclosed his intention to return at welterweight, emphasizing his readiness to face any opponent offered to him. Despite the ongoing negotiations, McGregor remains optimistic about his comeback and anticipates a suitable offer to solidify his return to the octagon.
