Dart player Matt Clark recently shared a harrowing experience of being advised to ‘rest or die’ after being hospitalized with a life-threatening blood clot. The 57-year-old athlete, hailing from Dartford, had to step away from the World Seniors Tour due to medical warnings about the severity of his condition, emphasizing the need for significant lifestyle changes.
Having held a PDC Tour Card for several years, including a notable run to the last 32 in the 2006 World Championships before being stopped by Phil Taylor, Clark transitioned to the WDF following the loss of his Tour Card.
Speaking about his health scare, Clark recounted the moment when he faced the stark reality of his situation, stating, “Midway through the seniors tour, I got a life-threatening blood clot in a not very pleasant place.” He further elaborated on the gravity of the situation, recalling the doctor’s words: “If we don’t get that under control, you’re either going to have a brain hemorrhage or a heart attack.”
Despite facing significant health challenges, Clark made a comeback and is set to compete as the No. 7 seed in the WDF World Championship, where he will take on Francois Schweyen. Notable achievements in his career include winning the 1999 Canadian Open and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2008 World Matchplay tournament.
Clark’s resilience and determination to overcome health obstacles serve as a testament to his strength and passion for the sport as he continues to pursue success in darts.
