Dolly Parton, renowned for her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to stardom, has transformed her life story into various creative ventures, including music, a theme park, and a podcast. Now, a new Broadway musical titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical” is set to debut later this year, promising to narrate Dolly’s life in her own words and through the songs that have shaped her experiences.

In an announcement video for the upcoming musical, the 80-year-old icon assured viewers that the production would authentically reflect her life’s highs and lows. Emphasizing the real essence of her story, she expressed, “It’s about where I really come from, what I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved, and how I found my way.”

The musical is expected to feature a blend of new songs penned exclusively for the show alongside Dolly’s chart-topping hits, such as “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Scheduled to commence performances in New York City on December 7, the show is slated to run until November 21, 2027.

Parton, whose illustrious career spans nearly seven decades, described the musical as a realization of her dreams. With over 3,000 songs to her credit and more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, she holds prestigious positions in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Having premiered in Nashville last summer to a sold-out six-week run, the musical received overwhelming praise for its ability to resonate with audiences on a deep level. Director Bartlett Sher expressed astonishment at the profound connection people feel towards Dolly, noting how she has consistently inspired and brought joy to countless individuals.

The show’s statement asserts that “Dolly” allows the iconic artist to share her unfiltered story in a manner never seen before, shedding light on the depth beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her persona. Tickets for the Broadway production will be available for purchase starting Friday, July 10.
