Former Red Bull executive Richard Hopkins recently gave an update on the health status of Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher. Hopkins expressed his belief that Schumacher’s condition will not be made public again following the serious head injury the seven-time world champion sustained in a skiing accident in December 2013.

Since the accident almost 12 years ago, Schumacher’s health details have been kept confidential, with the 56-year-old being placed in a medically induced coma shortly after the incident. Hopkins, who had a close relationship with Schumacher during their time in Formula 1, emphasized the importance of respecting the family’s privacy regarding Schumacher’s health.

In a recent interview with SPORTbible via William Hill, Hopkins mentioned that he is not privy to the latest updates on Schumacher’s health but indicated that the family is keen on maintaining secrecy for valid reasons. He expressed his hesitation in discussing Schumacher’s condition extensively due to the family’s wish for confidentiality.

Acknowledging his distance from Schumacher’s inner circle, Hopkins highlighted that he is not as intimately connected as individuals like Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, or Gerhard Berger, who regularly visit Schumacher. Despite their friendship dating back to the 1990s when Hopkins worked at McLaren and later at Red Bull, he reiterated the necessity of keeping Schumacher’s health information away from public scrutiny.

Hopkins underscored the level of confidentiality surrounding Schumacher’s condition, noting that even close friends like Ross Brawn would not divulge details about Schumacher’s well-being out of respect for the family’s wishes. He emphasized the importance of upholding the family’s desire for privacy and concluded that even if he had access to information, he would refrain from sharing it to honor the family’s wishes.
