Coco Gauff has hinted at the possibility of addressing the situation where she was seen smashing her racket following her departure from the Australian Open. The third-seeded player experienced a decisive 6-1 6-2 loss to Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals, lasting less than an hour, and chose a private spot off-court to release her frustrations.

Despite her efforts to keep the moment private, footage of Gauff venting her emotions by damaging her racket on a concrete surface quickly circulated online and was broadcast on television. The young player expressed her discomfort with such moments being publicized, highlighting a perceived intrusion on players’ privacy during major tournaments.

Acknowledging the incident, Gauff mentioned, “Yeah, I tried to go somewhere where there was no cameras. I feel like certain moments – the same thing happened to Aryna [Sabalenka] after I played her in the final of the US Open. I feel like they don’t need to broadcast.”

Gauff had intended to express her feelings in private but was unknowingly under the watchful eye of cameras. She expressed hope that similar occurrences could be avoided in the future, emphasizing the limited privacy players have outside the locker room.

The footage of Gauff’s outburst, although controversial, provided her with an outlet to release her frustrations before rejoining her team. When asked if this helped her cope with the defeat, Gauff responded positively, underlining the importance of managing her emotions without affecting her team negatively.

Known for her resilience, Gauff struggled to recover after Svitolina took an early lead, leading to her inability to elevate her performance. Reflecting on the match, she admitted, “I felt like all the things I do well, I just wasn’t doing well today. The backhand wasn’t firing. Forehand wasn’t really firing. Returns. There was just a lot that didn’t go well today.”

Gauff credited Svitolina for her performance, recognizing that her opponent’s playstyle contributed to her difficulties on the court. Despite the loss, Gauff remained optimistic about learning from the experience and moving forward in her career.
