Google has announced the discontinuation of Chrome support for older macOS versions on MacBook devices. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users will no longer receive updates or security patches, potentially exposing them to cyber threats.

Starting from July this year, Google will cease providing Chrome updates for Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier. Users on these outdated platforms will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to ensure continued browser support.

Unfortunately, some Mac models, such as iMacs predating the 2017 version and MacBook Air models purchased before 2018, are incompatible with Ventura. This may necessitate users to acquire new devices for secure Chrome usage.

According to a blog post from Google, Chrome version 150 is the final release supporting macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome 151, expected to launch on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users must transition to macOS 13 or above to receive future Chrome updates.

While older Chrome versions will still operate, no further updates will be provided for users on macOS 12. Google advises users on Monterey to transition to a supported macOS version for continued security updates and Chrome features.
