A heart specialist who previously managed the medical care of former Vice President Dick Cheney is calling on Congress to assess President Donald Trump’s mental acuity. Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a seasoned cardiologist and notable public figure, is urging for scrutiny based on the president’s public statements and writings, which he believes raise significant concerns. This appeal follows Trump’s recent communication to European leaders regarding America’s foreign policy objectives.
In a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump linked his failure to secure the Nobel Peace Prize to his political ambitions concerning Greenland. Trump expressed his view that since he did not receive the prize, he no longer feels bound to prioritize peace but can focus on what is best for the United States. He emphasized the importance of annexing Greenland for global security, asserting his contributions to NATO and requesting reciprocal actions from the organization.
Reacting to Trump’s letter, Dr. Reiner highlighted it as a warning sign, calling for a bipartisan congressional investigation into the president’s fitness for office. The doctor also commented on Trump’s recent actions, including endorsing a primary challenger to Senator Bill Cassidy, expressing concerns about the president’s priorities and decision-making.
Dr. Reiner’s concerns about Trump’s health and ability to lead are not new. Earlier this year, he criticized Trump’s comments about his health regimen, particularly regarding his aspirin use. Contrary to Trump’s claims, Dr. Reiner clarified that anticoagulant medications do not “thin” the blood but reduce clotting risks. Despite Trump’s assertions of good health, his doctor, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, has affirmed that routine scans show no abnormalities.
Throughout his political career, Trump has consistently maintained his good health status, supported by medical assessments indicating no issues.
