Heathrow Airport has announced a 16% increase in its drop-off charge for “kiss and fly” services starting January 1. The current fee of £6 will rise to £7, with a maximum 10-minute stay limit in place to avoid a parking penalty of £80. The airport stated that this adjustment aligns Heathrow with other major UK airports, aiming to reduce congestion, promote public transport use, and optimize the forecourts. Free drop-off and pick-up options are still accessible at all terminals through Park & Ride car parks.

According to a spokesperson from Heathrow, 95% of passengers already complete drop-offs within the 10-minute timeframe, emphasizing the necessity to maintain traffic flow and diminish congestion. The airport clarified that the drop-off fee contributes to investments in bus, rail, and sustainable transport initiatives, encouraging passengers to consider environmentally friendly travel options.

Heathrow’s website highlights the convenience of its terminal drop-off locations, offering easy and swift passenger transfers. Payment for drop-offs can be made online or via phone, with the option for single or multiple pre-paid drop-offs. The fee must be settled by midnight the following day, as payment is not accepted at airport ticket machines or terminal drop-off zones.

Recent reports indicate a 2% revenue increase to £2.7 billion in the first nine months of 2025 for Heathrow, driven by robust long-haul flights and increased premium service uptake. Although profits slightly decreased by 0.2% to £1.5 billion, the airport remains financially stable.

Unlike some UK airports, Heathrow’s drop-off area is exclusively for drop-offs, with passenger pick-ups designated to the airport’s car parks, offering a minimal charge for 30 minutes of parking. This rise in fees follows a trend observed in many busy UK airports, as reported by the RAC in July, with over half of them implementing increased drop-off charges. While UK airports may have higher fees compared to European counterparts, the focus remains on sustaining investments in transportation infrastructure and promoting eco-friendly travel choices.
