Immigration authorities reportedly prevented a doctor from attending to Renee Nicola Good, a mother of three who was fatally shot by an ICE officer, using three callous words. The doctor, whose name was not disclosed, allegedly requested to check for a pulse after the incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota. However, ICE agents allegedly intervened, instructing him to step back and showing indifference when he identified himself as a physician.
Another agent then purportedly informed the doctor that Emergency Medical Services were on their way and that they had their own medical personnel present. This interaction was apparently captured on video, with a woman heard demanding to know the whereabouts of the medical responders. The woman expressed distress, questioning how she could relax when her neighbor had just been killed.
The tragic incident involved Ms. Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer during an operation. The event has sparked controversy in the US, with conflicting narratives emerging regarding the circumstances.
Footage of the incident depicted a masked federal agent firing multiple shots at Good’s vehicle, which subsequently collided with another car after driving up the street. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Tricia McLaughlin, asserted that the agent acted in self-defense, claiming that one of the individuals involved was attempting to run over federal officers. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem characterized the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism.”
Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis later demanded that ICE leave the city, condemning the officer’s actions as reckless. He referred to video evidence showing ICE agents approaching a vehicle in the middle of the street, with one firing three shots through the front windshield as the vehicle attempted to flee. Mayor Frey dismissed claims of self-defense, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Tensions escalated in Minneapolis following the deployment of over 2,000 ICE agents to Minnesota for a large-scale immigration operation and a crackdown on alleged fraud involving Somali residents. Mayor Frey reiterated his support for immigrant and refugee communities, urging ICE to depart from the city immediately.
The shooting took place near longstanding immigrant markets and in proximity to where George Floyd was tragically killed by police in 2020. Protesters gathered at the scene, expressing outrage towards local and federal officers, including Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino. Demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the removal of ICE from Minnesota.
Donna Ganger, the mother of Ms. Good, fondly remembered her daughter as a kind-hearted and compassionate individual who dedicated her life to caring for others.
