ICE agents in Minnesota have adopted a new ominous phrase after the recent tragic death of Renee Good in the city. Videos have surfaced showing officers intimidating peaceful demonstrators to stop following them or comply with their orders, often using the phrase “have you not learned?” in reference to the fatal shooting of a mother of three by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
The influx of anti-immigrant personnel into the state under Donald Trump’s administration has led to escalating tensions. Ms. Good was fatally shot by an ICE officer while trying to maneuver her car around him. Despite video evidence showing she posed no threat, Trump officials labeled her a “domestic terrorist” and defended the officer’s actions as self-defense.
In response to the shooting, five prosecutors, including First Assistant US Attorney Joe Thompson, have resigned over the Justice Department’s handling of the case. The Department of Homeland Security’s plan to deploy over 2,000 immigration officers to Minnesota prompted the state, along with Minneapolis and St. Paul, to sue President Donald Trump’s administration to halt or limit the deployment.
The lawsuit alleges that Homeland Security’s actions violate constitutional rights, particularly in a progressive state that supports Democrats and embraces immigrants. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed concern over the impact of thousands of federal agents entering the city, affecting daily life. A court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday to address the situation.
Homeland Security defends its operations in Minnesota, citing over 2,000 arrests since December and emphasizing its commitment to continue. Spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin accused Minnesota officials of disregarding public safety. Recent clashes saw ICE agents using tear gas and eye irritants against activists, while students protested immigration raids by walking out of a suburban school.
