Iran’s foreign minister has dismissed recent threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who declared intentions to launch a significant economic operation against Iran. Abbas Araghchi, in a social media post, criticized Trump’s plan as a distraction from America’s own financial challenges. Araghchi warned that persisting with ineffective policies would lead to more defeats and animosity from Iranians. Trump’s statements about imposing unprecedented economic warfare and isolation on Iran followed the failure to secure a lasting peace deal. The U.S. president’s online post on Truth Social also cautioned countries against assisting Iran, emphasizing severe economic consequences. China, a major importer of Iran’s oil, could face repercussions if the U.S. escalates economic actions against Iran. Chinese officials rejected the use of sanctions and pressure tactics, advocating for a diplomatic approach instead. The U.S. Treasury Secretary hinted that focusing on economic measures could reduce the need for large-scale military operations against Tehran. Oil prices surged in response to the U.S. threats, aiming to end the prolonged conflict in the Middle East. Experts highlighted the risks of Trump’s approach, underscoring Iran’s ability to withstand economic pressure and retaliate. The prolonged conflict has resulted in numerous casualties, with peace negotiations at a standstill after the expiration of a 60-day negotiation period. Despite the stalemate, Trump hinted at the possibility of resuming talks in the future.
