A top jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan, in 2023, was the victim of a violent car theft attempt by a group of individuals. They vandalized her vehicle, causing serious injuries to her face before fleeing the scene.
Logan suffered a broken nose, cuts on her lip, and three broken teeth just three weeks before her wedding. The perpetrators evaded capture as Logan recounted the excruciating pain she experienced with a large racehorse trapping her underneath.
Riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her husband Tommy, Logan faced a frightening incident when the horse reacted to a sudden scare, causing it to fall on her during a race. She described the intense pain of having her pelvis crushed by the horse’s weight.
Following the accident, Logan received immediate medical attention, including being transferred to a different hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries. She underwent surgery to repair her fractured hip and pelvic bones, narrowly avoiding more serious internal injuries.
Despite the intense pain and fear of potential long-term effects, Logan is now recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame. She anticipates a six to eight-month recovery period before she can return to horse riding, a sport she is determined to continue pursuing.
Having previously faced a traumatic carjacking incident, Logan displayed resilience by returning to horse riding and achieving notable success in competitions. However, she struggled internally, battling depression and turning to alcohol as coping mechanisms.
To combat her mental health challenges, Logan embraced competitive bodybuilding, finding solace and support from her network of friends and family. She emphasized the difference in her emotions between the deliberate attack she endured and the unintentional harm caused by the horse.
Grateful for the unwavering support of her loved ones, especially her husband, who has been instrumental in her recovery journey, Logan remains optimistic about overcoming her latest setback.
