Keir Starmer expressed appreciation for NHS staff, volunteers, and members of the armed forces who will be working this holiday season. In his Christmas address from No10, the Prime Minister recognized their dedication to serving the nation and ensuring its safety. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging their sacrifices and reaching out to those facing challenges during this time of year.

Additionally, Mr. Starmer highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the cost of living concerns. He urged people to support each other, especially those experiencing difficulties, as the holiday season can magnify feelings of loss and hardship.

In a recent gesture of gratitude, the Prime Minister and his wife hosted a Christmas dinner for 93 public sector workers at Downing Street. Among the attendees were individuals such as Zoe Lucas, a staff nurse, and Detective Sergeant Stacey Bailey. The Trades Union Congress reported that around 1.2 million essential workers, including care providers, nurses, and retail staff, will be on duty on Christmas Day. The TUC Secretary emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating those working tirelessly to maintain essential services during the festive period.

Furthermore, the government’s Employment Rights Bill, now in effect, is seen as a significant step towards improving working conditions for many individuals, including those on zero-hours contracts. The legislation aims to enhance workers’ rights and provide them with greater job security and fair treatment.

The TUC chief emphasized that the Employment Rights Act will bring positive changes for workers across various sectors, offering them better pay, improved job security, and a sense of dignity at work.
