Sky’s move towards streaming continues to gain momentum, with the introduction of innovative devices like the Stream box and Glass TV. These devices leverage broadband technology to deliver a mix of live and on-demand content directly to households, replacing the need for traditional satellite dishes. While Sky has been a key player in this arena, new options are now emerging.

One such alternative is Freely, launched in 2024 with the support of the Freeview team. Freely offers free access to a range of popular TV shows, sports events, and movies via broadband streaming. Initially, viewers had to purchase a new TV with built-in Freely capabilities to access the service, but that changed with the introduction of the Freely-compatible Pleio puck, allowing existing televisions to connect to the platform.

Adding to the choices available is Manhattan’s debut of its first Freely set-top box. Known for its successful Freeview boxes that rival Sky Q features, Manhattan is now shifting focus to a new streaming-centric device. The Aero 4K TV Streamer, set to launch in February, promises access to 60 live TV channels and over 75,000 hours of on-demand content without any monthly fees. Similar to Sky’s Stream box, all content is delivered over Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for traditional aerials or satellite dishes.

Powered by the acclaimed TiVo OS, the Aero not only provides access to Freely but also supports popular apps such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and YouTube. Additionally, it includes TiVo+ with hundreds of free streaming channels and a vast library of on-demand movies and TV shows.

Designed for superior picture quality, the Aero supports 4K resolution and features voice search functionality, although it lacks the capability to record programs to a hard drive.

Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, expressed enthusiasm for the Aero’s launch, highlighting its ability to bring British TV content to any television without the need for built-in Freely compatibility. The Manhattan Aero 4K TV Streamer with Freely is set to hit the market in February 2026, priced at £69.99, and will be available at major retailers including Currys, John Lewis, and Amazon.
