Police are on a quest to locate a vicious murder gang believed to be behind the tragic deaths of two boys. The victims, aged 12 and 15, named Dau Akueng, were brutally killed in a suspected gang assault, with one of them enduring severe mutilation wounds. Reportedly, one of the teens had his hand amputated during the incident, which occurred on Saturday night. Authorities suspect that up to eight masked individuals, allegedly young gang members armed with machetes and other weapons, carried out the fatal attacks near Melbourne, Australia.
According to local law enforcement, the teenagers were discovered dead at two different locations just 200 meters apart in Cobblebank suburb. The 12-year-old was fatally stabbed, while Dau suffered mutilation injuries and was found deceased. Family members mentioned that the boys were in the company of friends returning from a nearby basketball arena.
Initially thought to be isolated targeted incidents, the tragic deaths are now being linked to youth gang criminal activity by Victoria Police. Detective Inspector Graham Banks mentioned that while it’s possible the groups were acquainted, it could also be a case of mistaken identity.
The Inspector revealed that the attackers concealed their identities and escaped in a vehicle. He condemned the violence, stating that such crimes are unacceptable, especially considering the victims were not associated with any gang. Dau’s father, Elbino, expressed anguish over his son’s death, stating that similar incidents have occurred without adequate police response.
A close family friend, Aboil Alor, who knew Dau from the basketball club, described him as a bright and kind young man, deeply mourned his tragic passing. She appealed to the authorities to swiftly uncover the truth behind the boys’ deaths and provide justice for the grieving families.
Police vowed to dedicate all resources to solving the case and apprehending the perpetrators in the days to come. The Collingwood Basketball Association, where Dau was actively involved, issued a heartfelt statement mourning his loss and highlighting the impact of his presence both on and off the court.
