Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to create history by facing off in the first-ever professional boxing match at The Las Vegas Sphere in September. This highly anticipated rematch comes after their epic showdown in 2015, known as the ‘Fight of the Century,’ where Mayweather emerged victorious. Despite both fighters retiring, they are now gearing up for a sensational comeback.
Netflix has officially confirmed that Mayweather Pacquiao II will take place on September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere, marking another major event for the streaming platform. The upcoming fight is expected to break records, as their previous encounter raked in a staggering £4.6 million in pay-per-view buys and set a gate record of $72.2 million (£53.5 million).
In their initial bout, Mayweather reportedly pocketed $250 million (£185.3 million) while Pacquiao took home $150 million (£111.2 million). Mayweather’s undefeated 50-0 record will be on the line in the rematch, which is slated to be a professionally sanctioned event.
Following the announcement, Pacquiao expressed his eagerness for the rematch, stating, “The fans have waited long enough—they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”
In response, Mayweather confidently stated, “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.” Both fighters are expected to have warm-up fights before their highly anticipated showdown, with Pacquiao scheduled to face Ruslan Provodnikov and Mayweather likely to square off against Mike Tyson.
The upcoming battle will be a historic event, headlining The Sphere for the first time in boxing history and only the second sports event after UFC 306 in September 2024.
