Martin Lewis, the founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, has issued a warning to readers following complaints about individuals falsely claiming to represent his website. Lewis emphasized that his team would never engage in cold calling or door-to-door solicitation. He stressed the importance of avoiding unsolicited offers, emphasizing that any such contact purportedly from MoneySavingExpert should be disregarded. This cautionary message comes in light of recent reports regarding a £200 payment for state pensioners born before 1959.

Lewis firmly stated, “These cold callers have no affiliation with MoneySavingExpert or myself. I do not endorse cold calling tactics. It is essential to prioritize thorough market comparisons over pushy sales attempts over the phone or at your doorstep. If approached by unknown individuals offering savings on various services, it is best to politely decline and avoid engaging with them.”

For individuals facing persistent unsolicited calls, blocking the number via phone settings or registering with the Telephone Preference Service can help deter further marketing calls. To prevent unwanted door-to-door solicitations, a “no cold callers” sign downloadable from MoneySavingExpert can be displayed.

In case of suspected scams or fraud, individuals are encouraged to report incidents promptly. Action Fraud can be contacted at 0300 123 2040, while those in Scotland can reach out to Advice Direct Scotland at 0808 164 6000. Additionally, scam emails should be forwarded to report@phishing.gov.uk, scam text messages to 7726, and suspicious websites to the National Cyber Security Centre.

If targeted by potential scammers over the phone, it is advised to hang up immediately and verify the caller’s legitimacy online. Avoid calling back the provided number and contact your bank promptly if fraudulent activity is suspected. The 159 hotline can connect you directly to your bank for further assistance.
