Sky Q, a renowned set-top box, is highly esteemed for its exceptional features. The device, known for its live TV recording capabilities and access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, has gained widespread popularity. However, Sky seems to be shifting its focus from the satellite-based platform to internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This transition may pave the way for a new competitor to emerge soon.

Humax has introduced a new product named the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, which closely resembles Sky Q in functionality. Like Sky Q, the Aura EZ comes with a built-in 2TB hard drive for storing ample hours of TV programs, movies, and sports content. With physical recording options becoming scarce, the inclusion of internal storage in a new device is a significant development.

Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, enabling users to watch live TV over broadband. Developed by the team behind Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand shows. This setup allows easy mobility of the box between rooms, simplifies installation, and facilitates regular feature updates.

The Aura EZ boasts features such as 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently control the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and manage recordings from any location.

While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it is a free-to-use service without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for launch in the UK in February 2026, with a recommended retail price of £249.

Meanwhile, Sky has announced its own upgrade, introducing a new subscription bundle that combines various major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. Priced at £24 per month, customers will have access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max.

Sky emphasizes the value of the bundle, bringing multiple streaming platforms together under a single subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also receive over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Furthermore, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel directly added to the TV guide.

The £24 bundle includes:

– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (from March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26)
– Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
