A pregnant music teacher, aged 33, has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a minor under the age of 16. Naomi Tekea Craig, who is married, faces accusations of two instances of sexual contact with a minor aged between 13 and 16, possession of child exploitation material, and engaging in persistent sexual behavior with a minor under 16. The alleged incidents took place between 2024 and 2025.
Craig was employed as a music instructor at the Fredrick Irwin Anglican School, a private institution where she was well-liked by both students and parents. The offenses are under investigation by the police, and they reportedly occurred in Mandurah, located just south of Perth in Western Australia. The school’s Principal, Tracey Gray, informed parents in a letter about Craig’s arrest and assured them that the teacher had been instructed not to come to the school.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to protecting children, stating that reports of offenses against minors are distressing for the community. Specialist detectives and support services are actively working on investigating the case and providing care for the victims. Craig is scheduled to appear in court at the Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27.
The Fredrick Irwin Anglican School offers a compulsory music program for its eighth-grade students and charges $8,320 (£4,153) per year for older pupils. Craig, who was on maternity leave at the time of her arrest, is reported to be married. A former schoolmate described her as a wonderful music teacher and a friendly individual, expressing shock at the news.
